There are books we have all tried, and failed, to get through. There is often a sense of frustration attached, particularly if they’re well regarded, or worse, recommended.
There are a few on my list, but the one that sticks out like a sore thumb is Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius.
There really is no book like it, and there probably never will be. The private writings of a general, philosophy, and emperor, written with no expectation of ever being read. In some ways, it’s the opposite of this project!
I recently got a paperback copy off Amazon, and have attacked this version with a little more vigor. I’ll white knuckle it to Chapter 5, and if it’s not working, it’s not working.
I think Marcus would approve of this strategy.
