It is my wife’s birthday today.
We celebrated by getting up very early to get a jump start on work before the movers arrive, heaving boxes around, having a nightmare at the storage unit, and it isn’t even 3:30. Not exactly glamourous or romantic. Such is life when you’re moving, even temporarily, across the ocean.
What has been a decidedly burdensome day is an outlier though, because for the past 366 days, every moment has been nothing short of a delight.
People talk poorly of marriage, or how it’s a scam simultaneously oppressing women and/or robbing men. That hasn’t been my experience in the slightest, because I am married to the most wonderful person I have ever met.
This has been true for a while. What has changed is that Ky has since become a mother, and she has done an incredible job. Seeing her and Occi together never fails to make me realise how lucky I am.
So while today may not have the glamour a birthday deserves, it perfectly captures what makes Ky extraordinary – her resilience, her ability to find joy in chaos, and her unwavering dedication to our family’s journey.
Happy birthday my love.
