When living in a new city, you have to take every opportunity you can to make new friends. Today was one of them.
I have a good friend Niv, who my wife introduced me to last year. He’s from New Zealand originally, but now happily lives in Denver. While we have done a few things together in the past, the one thing we love to do together is watch the Premier League on Sunday mornings. Consider it our church
This morning we watched Arsenal take on, and comprehensively beat, Liverpool. Niv is a mad keen ‘Pool fan, so he wasn’t too pleased, but as a neutral I was glad to see the season remain a three horse race. Keeps things interesting.
The highlight for me wasn’t the game though; rather it was the company. We went to Niv’s friends place to watch the game, and five of us guys, none of us Denver locals, were able to spend a morning watching football, tucking into pastries, and talking smack.
I think I’ll double down on making friends with the host; he was a super interesting guy and used to work at the same mining company I did back in the day. I will follow up with him this week, and maybe we can turn a fortuitous meetup into something substantial.
