For three years, I have been a firm supporter of Israel’s occupation of Gaza.
I have defended them, to friends and foe. I went to see Douglas Murray, and would send my Jewish friends messages of support and comfort. I drank the Kool Aid.
I’m certainly no Hamas supporter. I still the society that Palestinians have built is evil, backwards, cruel, and barbaric. I still think the Israelis who were massacred on Oct 7 were the victims of unthinkable malevolence.
But now, I think, is time for something to change. Being a father has given me a lot of empathy for other parents, and even if their desires, wishes, and even actions are evil, I want the suffering to end.
It’s a complex situation, and I think I might be wrong. But that is the first step towards being right.
