It is our last night in Auckland.
We’re staying with friends where there is a very, very good neighborhood restaurant, El Greco.
It’s the restaurant everyone wishes they owned. Delicious, unpretentious, generous. The place is family owned, and you can tell who the owners are as they swirl around, check how you’re going, catch up with regulars etc.
It’s not the French Laundry or Noma, but it’s the best possible example of a neighborhood local.
My strongest recommendation is usually “I’ll be back”, and I was fortunate enough today to go for lunch (with an old colleague) and dinner (with a group of friends). I can’t wait for round 3!
