Octavia has been monstrous the past few days. Refusing to eat, crying, screaming, and generally inconsolable.
We thought it might have been teething (it is!) but there must have been something else making it worse. Sadly, our suspicions turned out to be true.
Octavia has gone down with a case of Hand, Foot, and Mouth; which frankly I have never heard of, but is apparently quite common. There are a few symptoms, but the big one is painful blisters in the mouth and throat. No wonder she was so upset.
It means we are locked in for the weekend, and have sadly had to pull out of ski weekend with friends. It sucks, but right now I just hope she feels better soon.
There, is perhaps, a silver lining out of this, which everyone who has got sick knows. When you’re under the weather, you get to go on a mini-holiday. Not to Barbados, but rather a break from responsibilities. We’re a no screen time family, but this evening we cuddled up with a VERY fragile child and watched cat videos on TV, which is delightful. It means yoghurt and ice-cream for dessert. It means lots of hugs and time with soft toys.
Would we all rather be healthy and happy. Of course. But that doesn’t mean we can’t make the best of a rather crummy situation.
