Something to do

Today we woke to see our world blanketed in snow.

This is a rarity, and possibly the third time it has happened all winter. The season has been dreadful for snowsports lovers, i.e us.

As I have mentioned many times, I’m a fan of snow days. They don’t cause any severe downsides (we don’t drive much, our house is insulated, and our car is garaged), and it is a novelty and something nice to look at. Octavia LOVES these days.

With that said, today’s cold weather threw a few small, icicle sized spanners into the works:

  • While riding my Lime bike to the gym this morning, my hands were so frozen that I had to abort 3/4 of the way through, lest I be maimed with permanent frost bite. It took me about 15 minutes for them to feel normal again (note to self: buy gloves)
  • Some people like humid weather, others hate it. Same for cloudy weather, same for hot weather. But EVERYONE haters windy weather (with perhaps the exception of sailors and kite flyers). Last night’s gust pulled off my BBQ cover and now the Webber is 3 inches under snow. Great.
  • There is a much shorter list of things to do with a rambunctious toddler when the weather hits sub-zero. Costco trips in the afternoon are poor substitutes to visiting the playground.

I had a moronic geography teacher back in Year 9 who insisted that there was no such thing as good weather or bad weather, just consistent and inconsistent weather. He was also well known as Mr Dope-away. But maybe he was onto something…
