I’ve been toying around with the idea of building software for small to medium orgs for a while, using AI and a bit of digital elbow grease to get me there. Well, today was the day I went from 0-1.
Regular readers will know that I have pulled my boots on for one more season with the Denver Bulldogs Australian Rules Football Club. But much fewer of you will know that this Saturday was their annual Golf Fundraiser, and none of you know that I built the software that managed it.
That’s a bit of overkill. Tee-Off was a simple app that tracked each teams’ number of strokes, ran a running scoreboard, allowed users to purchase raffle tickets and on course bonuses, vand organised the various prize holes. It is by no means UBER, but the success of the tournament hinged on it working, and it DID!
The experience wasn’t without hiccups. The morning of, Stripe, my payments processor, got a little suspicious and suspended my account for further review. After a mini heart attack, I was able to solve that. Other issues were smaller; a few name changes for the group, updating the tee off order etc. The final 10% always takes half the time.
After a few hours of stress, seeing the live results trickle through and reading the positive feedback was a real blast.
