I was in the library the other day with O, flipping through some cooking books as I often do. The one I picked up on this occassion Knife Drop by Nick Digiovanni; a young guy who is a graduate of both Masterchef and Harvard. He’s a born star, and very handy in the kitchen.
There was one thing that stood out for me, that I have been running over in my mind the last 72 hours. While clearly self-serving, he claimed that cooking is the highest form of art, because it is the ONLY one that engages all five senses*. It is hard to argue against, and while I love going to the ballet, unless I’m sitting very close, I can’t really (and don’t wish to!) smell what is going on.
Fortunately, Ky and I are off to date night this evening at a very well regarded place, so I’ll get to test my theory in real time.
Bon appetit.
* Yes, there are more than five senses. I know.
