Texas Roadhouse

Ky was in Cincinnati AND Nashville this week, so it has been mostly O and I hanging out.

It’s been nice. Having some dad-daughter time is always special.

Last night, we (well, I) decided to go and check out a true American classic, the Texas Roadhouse.

Texas Roadhouse is a Texan-themed steakhouse chain, and is about as Americana as it gets. Deer busts and taxidermied trouts line the wood panelling, and as you enter, you are greeted by a wall of meat for you to view. Cowboy paraphernalia, a stuffed marmot wearing a tie, and a wall of TVs showing betting ads interspersed with the baseball covered the remaining space.

In many European cultures, it is customary to start any meal with a bowl of bread. At the Roadhouse, they bring out unlimited dinner rolls with cinnamon butter. Is it the same thing? Not really, but fluffly rolls with fat and sugar are always going to have an audience. O, unsurprisingly, went gorillas for them.

We shared some wings, a steak with fries and a salad, and I guess technically a beer (O loves her darker ales)*, and rolled out full, happy, heavily salted, and glad we went.

Texas Roadhouse isn’t 11th Madison or the French Laundry. But it was good value, tasty (albeit a bit heavy on the salt), with staff who were friendly and helpful, and overall a positive vibe. For many people, that is exactly what they want, which is why at 5:30 on a Wednesday it was PACKED. Older people, families, young couples on dates, friends, work events.

I had a good time, got a free appetizer gifted to me as a first time customer, and didn’t have to worry about the washing up.

Worth a visit.
