Dark side of the moon

Today was Solar Eclipse Day. Unfortunately, in Denver it was only partial (~70%) eclipse day, but still, it was super cool. I thought I’d share a few notes from this historic day.

Many of you have probably already seen this image, which tracks the percentage of AirBnbs that are occupied. As you can see, it is WILDLY popular across that belt where you get 100% solar eclipse, and if you’re outside of that zone, it rapidly drops.

Unfortunately for Ky and I, we didn’t get to pick up sticks and head to the (lack of) sun belt, but we were able to see the partial eclipse in Denver. At 12:30, I put on my Solar Glasses ($2.09 including tax) and looked up at the sun to see the few times in a lifetime phenomenom.

Honestly, it was kinda awesome. The sun in Colorado is so bright that you wouldn’t be able to tell unless you were aware, but looking up, the sun looked just like a crescent moon. The solar glasses black EVERYTHING out except for the sun, so it really just burns up there, singular, bright, half eaten.

I thought it was super cool, particularly surrounded by hundreds of people who had come out of their homes and offices at lunch to stare at the sun. This evening, I watched a few videos of people who were fortunate enought to be in the total eclipse belt, this one was my favourite.
