My wife spoke at an New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) panel discussion today. Alongside her was Jared Polis, the current Governor of Colorado, Judith “Crusher” Collins, senior cabinet member of the New Zealand National Party and former party leader, the head of the Denver Development & Economic org, and the Country Manager for Xero, a leading accounting software company. In short, it was a star-studded squad.
Kylene absolutely shined. She came across natural, off the cuff, informative and authentic. In fact, it looked like she had been working the mic for years, just like the seasoned politicians on the panel. What people saw was a natural, a born star, but there is a lot more to it than that.
My wife is a very good public speaker, but what made it GREAT was her preperation. For the past four days, she has been working on her answers, practicing her delivery, and refining her approach. We have gone through her answer over 50 times each, each time making it slighter sharper, clearer, better.
When it came down to sit on the panel, she nailed it. What looked like a totally off-the-cuff performance was down to being very well prepared. I’m super proud of her.
