The lucky life

Ky and I spent a few hours in the hospital today as she required some tests. It wasn’t what we expected, and at one point there were a few concerns that her otherwise relatively straightforward pregnancy had been derailed. Fortunately, the tests came back and everything is a-ok. Happy mum, happy bub.

Being in hospital sucks. While the nurses and doctors were terrific, and the facilities top notch (it’s like being in a Marriott!), there is just a ton of waiting around doing nothing. Regardless of how well organized and funded your operation, this just feels like an inescapable fact of life.

It did make me realize though, how very fortunate it was to grow up healthy. I have visited Rose Hospital in Denver more than any other hospital.

Ever.

Combined.

When I think about what it would be like had I been struck down with a childhood illness, or a sick sibling, or a parent with chronic disease, I realize how lucky I am to have spent 99.999% of my life outside a hospital.
