We have friends in town, and after happy hour, a catching up, and a BBQ, we ended up playing a game of Mousetrap.
If you haven’t played it before, it’s a board game where players make an elaborate mousetrap out of various parts, and then the end game centers itself around using said trap to catch your opponent’s mouse. Get caught, and you’re out of the game.
I had very fond memories of playing it as a kid, and the actual mouse trapping sequence is captivating, but overall, I don’t think I would play it again. It’s poorly balanced, the first half of the game is just building, and the end game is highly repetitive. Furthermore, with no tactical or skill requirements, the game is entirely dependent on a roll of a die.
Regardless, the game is designed for enjoyment, and we had plenty of that.
