Last week I had a deload week on my weight training program. It was my first one, and I have to say that they do have a place for most people, regardless of how they exercise.
In the past I always thought a deload week was all a load of hogwash and that a winning mentality was just to be full on, full time. Now that I am older, I see the error in my ways. Not only do I feel physically refreshed, I am almost eager to get back to my program, so there is a mental benefit as well.
A deload week doesn’t mean a holiday from the gym. It just means lighter weights, or different exercises. Rather than huffing and puffing under heavy squats and deadlifts, I was able to mix it up with something a little less arduous and a little more fun.
The hard work restarts again this week, and it will be interesting to see what progress happens in the next 6 weeks.
