After 7 or so months, we are back to where we started. Last night the mercury hit sub-zero (Celsius that is, we’re not that bad yet), and only rose above around 8 this morning.
One thing I have learned from living here is that temperature is only one part of it; equally important is humidity when it comes to feeling the cold.
The best example I can think of is London. I have walked around the UK in 5 degree weather and thought I was going to freeze solid. The wetness and the mizzle causes the cold to really make itself feel present on you. It’s horrible, especially when it’s cloudy and gray (which it almost always is).
Meanwhile, if you have ever been to a place like Zurich, you can be in -5 degrees, and as long as it isn’t windy and the sun is shining, it can be super pleasant. The dryness of the air sort of insulates against the cold, and while you’re not going to go sunbathing, you can sometimes find yourself down to a tshirt after a few minutes of brisk walking.
Luckily, Denver is more of the latter.
