I read today that apart from the ultra high end stuff, antiques have essentially collapsed in value. One person estimated it at a 90% drop, which seems high, but it could be true. It certainly feels directionally true.
I can’t remember the last time I went to a peer’s home and saw some serious, made to last furniture. Probably when I went to a BBQ at Ellie Golding’s now ex-husband’s house in Gloucester. But for everyone else, it’s mostly just IKEA and FB marketplace. I include myself in that category.
I always assumed it was just really, really expensive. But perhaps not.
I’ll have to investigate.
