My wife got me a large wooden chopping block a few years ago. Some may think that’s a weird present, but I love it. Already it has become a unique reflection of my chopping style, with the slice marks at a very particular angle, focussed on the right hand side of the board, exactly where I cut most of my ingredients.
Recently, it was looking a little worse for wear. The board had begun to warp slightly, making the experience both unpleasant and unsafe. It looked like I might need to replace it.
Turns out I was wrong; with wood, all you need to do is give it some love. I found a wood oil online, ordered it, and two days later I gave the board a good lathering. I repeated it again the day after, and now the board is good as gold, and straight as an arrow.
Shout out to Clark’s for the oil!
