Ky and I went to a friend’s birthday BBQ last night. It was a lovely evening, although it went through a little bit of a gear shift in the final third, but that isn’t relevant to the story.
What I wanted to write about is a that the woman who hosted us announced that she likes to ask everyone who attended the birthday to say something nice about the birthday person. It’s my favourite tradition, and it was so nice to see someone do it.
If you’re reading this, I would encourage you to do so at your next get together. This is doubly true if you’re male, it’s so rare to hear compliments or truthful statements from people who care about you. You’ll be amazed by what people say, and in our materialist lives, it’s often the best present you’ll get.
