My wife and I are not big fans of Valentine’s Day. The idea of being crowbarred into overpriced restaurants or flowers feels like the absolute opposite of romantic to the two of us. That said, we still like to do something special to celebrate.
This year, Ky got us a short-term subscription to a Japanese treats box! I’m not a sweet tooth, but I love to explore the wild west of flavours, so am very much looking forward to some adventurous treats. They are also so nicely packaged and presented; I already am looking forward to the next delivery!
For me, I love to show my love through cooking. This evening I made my favourite; Beef Wellington, Mashed Potatoes, Honey Glazed Roasted Carrots and Steamed Broccoli. Beef Wellington is an exercise in components; it takes a bit over 3 hours start to finish, and while the constituent parts are all fairly straightforward, it is bringing it all together that makes the time and difficulty stretch out.
Regardless, it is always a pleasure to cook, and a delight to eat. Even better, we have left overs for tomorrow!
