College Football

Ky and I went to watch a game of college football yesterday in Fort Collins, a town about over an hour away from Denver. It was quite an experience.

We saw Colorado State (Go Rams!) take on North Colorado U (Go Bears!), but for us, most of the fun is not in the game, but the spectacle. It started off with the marching band playing, the national anthem, complete with world war 2 AND modern airplane fly over, and the cheerleading teams. Regarding the latter, I was fairly certain UNC were going to have a rough time of it when I saw their cheerleading team, which while not lacking in enthusiasm, lacked the professionalism of their opponents. I’m not exactly the king of the dance floor, but I think I could have made it through at least the first round of auditions for the UNC cheer squad.

There were a few things I had never seen on a sporting field before. Every time the home team scored, a cannon was firing, which caused our entire section to completely freak out. They are LOUD. That wasn’t much fun, but fortunately the act of being deafened was softened by seeing a ram, dressed in a Colorado State dressing gown, paraded onto the field after each touchdown. Other highlights included seeing the local soldiers and airmen attending the game, although for some odd reason they were required to stand behind the goals for the entirety of the match, and do 10 pushups every time their opponents scored. Bizarre…

All in all, we had a ripper time, and now we’re lifetime fans of Colorado State. It didn’t hurt that we had possibly some of the best pizza of our lives (no exaggeration) on the way home

A great day.
