We’re so back.
Ky and I have been putting together our financial planning for the future, and have decided that we’re going to put 90%+ of our savings into low fuss investments. Savings accounts. ETFs. Boring stuff that works out over time.
But that’s not 100%, which allows us to have a measured dance in the wild roadhouse which is cryptocurrency. I’m slowly refining my strategy, but as for now I’m thinking a 50/30/20 split between Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana.
I’m also trying to figure out the best way to manage this situation. Ky and I have a Ledger Cold Wallet (I may write about that tomorrow) to store and stake our coins. But in terms of exchanges, we haven’t nailed one down. The trade offs inherent in all of them are hard to decipher.
Kraken, for example, is low fee, but requires you to wait 7 days until you can withdraw. Coinbase, a competitor, allows quick withdrawal, but higher fee. Binance, perhaps the most famous extant exchange, offers fast withdrawals AND low fees, but doesn’t allow Fiat deposits. It’s also based in China and has some shadowy figures.
One of my favourite idioms is “crypto is astrology for me”, and call me wet laundry because you have me picked. We’re not expecting it to go to the moon, although that would be nice, but it tickles an itch without causing any potential catastrophe.
