Last night, we had our very first Dad’s Night, which was a great event. This wasn’t actually organized by the kindergarten itself, but rather by two dads who are clearly built for leadership. In a good way.
I think for these kinds of events, it’s always useful to have an activity included. The guys organizing it put together a Mario Smash Brothers tournament on Nintendo 64. I have not played that game in 25 years, and even then, I think I’ve locked up maybe 1 hour of actual game time. It showed because I got absolutely destroyed and eliminated within the first 2 or 3 minutes. That didn’t bother me. I was there instead to make friends and build a community.
It was a roaring success. About 35 other dads clearly felt the same way, and while the event was meant to run from 8-10, by the time I left at 11:30, there were still plenty of people there.
We plan to do an event every month, but the real benefit will be seen daily at drop off and pick ups.

A great evening.
