Don’t you hate it when you’re trying to focus on some work, and the merest of distractions shanghaies your attention (‘just for a second’, you tell yourself)? I know it’s slurped an impossibly large amount of my time over the past three and a bit decades.
Discipline works, but it’s hard, and fallible, so we all need a system. For me, the one thing that has worked for me in the past is having a note-book where I jot down intrusive thoughts. Combined with the pomodoro timer (25 mins on, 5 mins off), it works well.
I don’t always use it, but I should.
It has at the very least allowed me the time to write this post!
