It’s the Fourth of July. Happy birthday America!
I think I’ll do a series this week on what I think about America, but today, I would like to focus on our trip to Mile High Stadium to see Ed Sheeran play.
Ed, England’s most famous singer since Amy Winehouse, was a strange pick for Independence Day, but he was a good one. He has been making hits for 15 years now, and he’s popular for a reason.
Personally, I think it is that he has an “Everyman” appeal to him. He’s not an unbelievably talented singer, and I don’t think he can dance at all, let alone do an Usher-tier performance. But he writes catchy songs which feel, at least to me, from the heart.
His concert was part of the Loop tour, where he would use a looping device to record sections of song, then play over the top of it. If you have ever seen someone do it live, it’s a fantastic piece of skill.
He did it to pay homage to his early days; playing in empty pubs, open mic nights on a Tuesday, busking on street corners. Before he had the million dollar tour schedule, it looked a lot like this.

And now, this is how things looked like from my POV.

It’s a story you can get behind.
