I’ll throw you a bone, Goal Seekers.
On the list of the things I am trying to achieve this year, one of them is to do series of monthly challenges. Like in the software world, it is a wise idea to iterate quickly, seeing what works and what doesn’t. Trying a new habit, lifestyle, or behaviour for 30 days is a nice balance between spending enough time figuring out what the benefits (and costs!) are of pursuing the change, while also being free to try 12 different modifications over the year.
January is dedicated to Cold Showers, one per day. So far, I have always gone for the morning shower; it means it is out of the way, plus, now that I give myself a 2 hour wake window before consuming caffeine (and you should too), it is an effective if slightly barbaric way of rousing from slumber.
We’re on Day 3, and it’s already getting easier. Have I seen the wonderful effects that Wim Hof, the Dutch guru/cold enthusiast/nutty squirrel professes? Not yet, but I don’t really do the breathing routine to match, so that might explain it.
If you haven’t heard of the Wim Hof method, I have included a short video, featuring a dear friend of mine, explaining not only the method, but the benefits of his approach to breathing, pushups, and the cold.
I’ll report back in 28 days.
