14 months ago, I wrote this piece wondering if the world is getting more dangerous. You can read it HERE.
I thought I would revisit it, in the wake of the Israeli attack on Iran. It feels like this will be a short conflict, given how devastated Iran was with this attack, but I can’t imagine they’ll give up without a fight. Rockets must be coming soon, but the Iron Dome is a hell of a technological marvel.
It really does feel like October 7th was a turning point for Israel, and they’re full “gloves off” when it comes to their foreign policy. It isn’t always pretty, but they live in a dangerous neighborhood, and you gotta be tough.
Ukraine was the other conflict I talked about, and after Operation Spider Web, which pretty much crippled half of the Russian Airforce. After more than three years of conflict, this presents as a major psychological and military victory for the Ukrainians. I work with a lot of them. They’re great, and I do hope their country overcomes.
Finally, I discussed three more countries: Haiti, Somalia, and Taiwan. They have all fallen off the map; I couldn’t tell you the last time I heard them discussed. This is unusual for Taiwan, but sadly typical for the other two. A cursory read over suggests that both Haiti and Somalia are still on the brink of collapse, if they haven’t fallen over completely already.
Is the world getting more dangerous? Not where I sit, but we certainly live in interesting times.
