I entered the FIFA World Cup Drop today, and all things considered, it was an 8/10.
The Drop is where you essentially get to choose the city you prefer, but nothing more. From there, you get a random allocation to two things, the Country and the Club World Cup.
We’ve all heard of the Country World Cup, but the Club World Cup is slightly different, where it takes the top performing teams from around the world, from global heavy weights like PSG and Real Madrid, to regional powerhouses (?) like Auckland FC. It is kicking off next month as a dress rehearsal to the big dance.
The Drop gave us two things: two tickets to the Club World Cup, held this year, and a right to buy tickets for the World Cup next year. You don’t know what you’re going to get, but we’re pretty happy with our outcome. We won two tickets to see Athletico Madrid play against Botafogo (the champions of Brazil) and have first dibs on a group stage game next year in SF. The draw will be confirmed in December, so while we know when and where the game will be played, we just don’t know who.
And honestly, we don’t care. The USA are already prequalified in the group, so there is a 1/4 chance they’re playing, but whether it’s France v England or Ghana v Iran, we’ll be there going nuts.
