I quite like the academic Scott Galloway, better know as Professor G. A marketing professor at NYU, he has gained far more reach with his commentary on the world at large, particularly its issues. I subscribe to his weekly newsletter (you can do so HERE), which is always worth reading.
I recently heard him on the Theo Von podcast, where he outlined what he believes is the three-legged stool of masculinity in the 21st century, and because he works in marketing, of course it has to be alliterative:
- Provider: Prof G believes a good man provides, and in a capitalistic society, men who are unable to provide will always struggle
- Protector: this ranges from the local to the global. He thinks it’s far better to stop bar fights than start them, and it’s hard to argue with that
- Procreator: his most contentious claim, but it certainly has merit. Most men love their children, I know I do, and that it helps them feel they are living a good life
Obviously it’s not exhaustive, and it’s not true for all people at all times. But I thought it was really well put, and I have thought about it a bit the last day and a bit.
