Today was a great day, and I’ll write more about it tomorrow. For now, I wanted to focus my writing today on the man who inspired me to start this journey.
I caught up with Dan this evening for Sri Lankan food. I was late.
The reason was infuriating; I caught the right tube, but in the wrong direction. It turns out I should have taken the Northern Line in the northern direction; only a fool goes the other way. To compound my misery, there is no reception down there in those windy halls, so poor Dan was left wondering where his dining companion was. Perhaps it gave him time to pump out an article? I guess I’ll see tomorrow.
Our conversation was grand. Dan, who has been doing this for years now, was equal parts praise and practical. He liked how I had developed a distinct voice, and pointed out that email replies don’t seem to be responded to. He’s right! If you had emailed me back via the blog, I probably haven’t read it. Something to fix and attend to; that is a major error on my end.
Dan is going as well as ever. He’s someone who impresses me with his interests in the world, and the combination of achievement, intelligence, and humility is a rare combo indeed. I’m glad we have become friends, and happy that he has more than one pal who has joined him on the writing path.
