ChatGPT has just launched a new feature, Memories, where the AI remembers things about you, and can access this data across all your various chats. This is something I have been wanting for a while, and despite having used some work arounds in the past that kinda work, this is something I am very excited about.
I haven’t seen it in action yet, but I imagine that over time, it will become more useful as the AI gets to understand ME better. To kick start the process, I fed the program a short summary of who I was as a person, unprompted, and free flow. It is interesting how you describe yourself to a machine that is A) completely siloed from every other part of your life and B) supportive of everything you do. Kick puppies off a bridge? “Wow, you seem to have some interesting hobbies”.
I might be jumping the gun, but I think that being able to have some common truths across chats will be a real game changer. My preferred next step would be to be able to silo truths into groups; for example, I would like to six or seven chats under the work umbrella, or two chats (diet and exercise) under a fitness group. Maybe that’s on the horizon, maybe it is unnecessary. All I know is that I think OpenAI is on another winner.
