While O was having her nap this afternoon, I snuck off* to the Celtic; one of those bars which have every sport on, from the NBA finals all the way down to Bulgarian 3rd Division.
I chose the Celtic as they host the official Denver Newcastle United Supporters Group, and with the distinctive black and white strip, they were easy to spot.
There were four of them there, but by their eagerness to have a chat and buy me a Guinness, I got the impression they were still open to new members. One guy was from the Old Country, but the others were Americans who had somehow decided that a small, frequently relegated, until recently woefully managed football club in a dreary part of post-industrial Britain was going to be THEIR team.
Sadly they lost to a very good Manchester City side, but it was nice to get out and be part of a community, even if it is (for now) very small.
*Ky was at home when I left, it’s not like I abandoned our daughter!
