This afternoon was committed singularly to fixing a too long ignored medical issue; my perennially sore ribs.
About two months ago, a collision during a football game gave my lower ribs a real hammer blow, and it took about fours to recover. I have been doing light training, knowing full tell that in only a few days I have my last ever football tournament, the USARFL Nationals in Florida. I have never won a grand final in Australian Rules Football; we lost against Cambridge when we played them in Varsity, came second to UWA at the Australian Uni Games, and I wasn’t selected for the grand final when I played club football. As for school football, we got pumped most games by 10+ goals. Tough going when you’re playing full back.
For all the complaints about the US healthcare system, it is quick. I went online at midday, was able to get an appointment at 2:40 with the doctor, go get my X-rays at 4:00, and pick up my prescription at 5. Total cost, ~$100.
So, not free, and this is on top of insurance costs. But I don’t think I could get a same day appointment and xray in Australia for free, and I definitely couldn’t in the UK. I’d probably be on a six week waiting list.
Anyway, I find out tomorrow whether I’ll be cleared to play this weekend, fingers crossed!
