Pre-Doping

I have just ticked over halfway in my 8 week gym program, and starting to feel and see the benefits. All great stuff.

In my quest to become a certified Swole-dier, I was looking this morning at potentially adding a pre-workout supplement, and found something that had surprised me.

Back in 2010, I used to take this pre workout called Black Powder. It was AWESOME. I remember taking a scoop or two before ergs or rowing races and remember the tingles, hand shakes, and performance improvement vividly.

Turns out that it had a secret ingredient, 1-3 dimethylamylamine, aka DMAA. For those not up to date with their chemistrs, this is, as ChatGPT described it, “legal over the counter crack, lite”.

No wonder it worked!

Unsurprisingly, it has since been banned from pretty much all countries as a supplement, and WADA added it to their doping list.

A crazy time. For now, I think I’ll be sticking with a banana.
