Sad goodbyes

After two wonderful months, Occi’s grandparents, Kim and Graham, have flown back to New Zealand. They have been a godsend.

It certainly wasn’t a holiday for them. With Ky back at work, they were on full time Occi duty. This meant trips to the library, swimming lessons, music lessons, and most of all, time spent playing in the living room. All that 2-on-1 attention has paid dividends; when they first came, Occi was barely army crawling; now she is racing around the house on all fours, standing almost unassisted, and maybe (maybe…) saying her first words (we don’t know if the dadas are a word, or just noise. I’m unconvinced … so far).

It hasn’t just been looking after Ock-Star though; they have helped us out a ton too. From cooking, to cleaning (they’re VERY neat), to doing the laundry, it has made the last few months a dream. Having a kid isn’t always HARD work, but there is a lot of it, so having a second pair of hands allows us to go to the gym, or have a nap, or see a friend, or just do a thousand other things. It allowed me to go to SF for a few days for work, and a week to Aus to see family. I know Ky feels the same.

They’re very sad to say goodbye, and so are we.
