Ky and I went to the ballet this evening to watch the Nut Cracker. It was a lovely chance to soak up some high culture and do something christmassy.
I’m a fan of the ballet, particularly the Tchaikovsky numbers. While Swan Lake remains number 1, I think the NC is a lot of fun.
What I found interesting was the second act was FAR better than the first; which is a rarity for me. As someone who only goes once or so a year, I am by no means an expert, but I usually prefer Act I, usually as there is a bit of plot movement. Act II often feels like a dance fest.
With the Nutcracker, the dance fest IS the best bit. From the internationally themed dances, to the Grand Pas De Deux, it is just a feast for the eyes.
The Colorado Ballet put on a good show. They’re not the NYCB or the Bolshoi, but they had a gorgeous set and a terrific orchestra. We’ll be back!
