Shout out

It was a dry winter, and so far a hot summer. As such, the great State of Colorado is under Stage Two Water restrictions and a total fire ban. Fair enough.

However, we are staying in the mountains for the Fourth of July long weekend, and out in the lobby, they have one of those large, propane-fuelled fire pits.

It looked a bit like this, but not as modern.

According to Colorado State Law, during a total fire ban day, propane fire pits ARE allowed, just as gas BBQs are allowed. Fair enough.

The reason I bring up some of the most mundane civil laws is that this evening, there was a full blown shouting match between two residents. In one corner, what I can only assume was a witch threatened to call the police and the management over the flame burning outside the complex. Against her were a young family who just wanted to enjoy a glass of wine while looking at the mountains.

What SHOULD have been a slight misunderstanding resulted in a shouting act that continued to escalate. At one point BOTH parties called the police, or at least postured that they were. It was all a little over the top.

Turns out that you can have artificial fires, and frankly, despite the dry conditions, there was no chance this fire pit was going to cause a blaze. The whole thing was just a total overreaction.

Weird.
