Sun rise

I had to get up at 5:45 this morning to get on a work call, and while it was slightly annoying as I was stood up, it did mean I got something nice in return, a beautiful sunrise. Ky and I are staying at a place right on the beach, and as I write this, coffee in hand, Zoom call empty, and sun rising, everything seems to be all right.

Of course, today is the day where probably more Australians and New Zealanders get up to see the sun rise, as today is Anzac day. An abbreviation of Australian New Zealand Army Corp, Anzac Day is not about the biscuits (a common school boy mistake, including one made by yours truly 25 years ago), but a remembrance day dedicated to everyone who served, and died, in the armed forces.

There is no dawn service where we are, so Ky and I are instead had our own moment of reflection, and messaged our friends who had served in the Aus and NZ militaries. Some say this is the lucky country, but lucky is finding $5 on the ground. Being able to be safe, and live in a liberal, democratic, and just society is something that needs to be guarded and protected. As dark clouds gather over the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and the South China Sea, it is something to keep in mind.
