Yesterday’s post was about how I remember a time at the snow with my dad many, many years ago. I wasn’t the only person who remembered that day, so I thought I would share how my mother remembered it. The following passage has been lightly edited for clarity and grammar.
You were all so eager to go to the snow. We were still at Yarck, and as you can see, you didn’t have the proper snow gear (gum boots and riding boots). You’re all wearing hand-knitted hats, courtesy of Grandma Kit [my grandmother on my dad’s side]. We hired the toboggans at TBJ [Telephone Box Junction] and took them to a run that was pretty shallow and close to the rental place. I remember you were really excited and wanted to go as fast as possible! But, like most things, it wasn’t that easy—you lost control and went down rather fast, meeting the end of the run and flipping the toboggan over. There wasn’t much snow, and it was really hard and icy, and we all know what those conditions are like! Fitting to the day, after a few tumbles, you were all frozen, so we went back to TBJ and had piping hot chocolates next to the open belly stove. It was a fun afternoon!
Thanks for the contribution Mum! Often there is two sides to the story, but on this occasion they line up rather nicely.
