This weekend, my friend Oliver came to visit us in Denver. It has been a terrific weekend, filled with everything fun you could imagine in Denver.
Last night I wrote about our time hiking in the Rockies, and how cool it was to see the nature and animals. What I didn’t get to write about was our drive back, which took us through the 34th Estes Park Duck Racing Festival (1st Prize = $10k), the Teddy Roosevelt National Park, and a quick detour at Freedom Guns, a family owned weaponry store. The man who served us was ssomething out of Central Casting; covered in tattoos, with a beard half way down his chest, and a cap which read Christ is King. We had a look over the guns, played around with the assault pistol, and heard his various musings on freedom and the Democratic Party. He also told us that he can make guns downstairs, including fully automatic weapons (which I’m 99% sure is highly illegal). A friendly guy.
When we got back to Denver, it was a quick shower and then straight off to Ball Arena to watch the Nuggets. It is Playoff Season, and we managed to snag some tickets, right up in the Gods. The nice thing about being at the very, very back is that the wall behind you isn’t going to pour beer or popcorn all over you. Sadly, the Nuggies couldn’t come home with the chocolates, but the whole experience is next level. At halftime, a female acrobat shot an arrow upside down using her feet, which isn’t something you see every day. Plus everyone was given a free t-shirt, which took a bit of sting out of the ticket prices. Overall, a great day.
Today was more chill. Sunday was a chance to watch Tottenham Hotspur embarrass themselves at Anfield, followed by a walk into RiNo to soak up the Cinco de Mayo vibes. The highlight, by far, was watching a local bar put on a Nacho Libre exhibition. Yep, two dudes wrestling in a makeshift WWE ring outside a bar. Something to be seen to be believed.
Finally, Oliver and I have finished up the weekend the best way one can; the Sunday Roast. We went chicken, roasties, and possibly the best gravy I have had in some time.
Oliver leaves tomorrow for Texas, but it was great to have him round!
