Today was my first Father’s Day. It was very special.
It might not look like that from an outsider’s point of view. We spent 90% of the time unpacking boxes as we slowly but surely move house.
But for me, it won’t be a day I forget. There were a number of highlights.
- Having breakfast at Denver’s premier bakery is always a treat. As the kids say, Denver food is decidedly mid, buy Bakery Four do a wonderful job. Whenever someone asks for my weaknesses, cheese and ham croissants are right up there
- BBQ with friends: Almost every culture celebrates socially by cooking meat with fire, but for some reason, you always think your particularly civilisation did it either better, or first. Being invited around to a friend’s place for a BBQ dinner, was a blast and a ton of fun.
- Occi: You don’t really get to celebrate Father’s day without being a father. And in many ways, I really couldn’t do it without Octavia. Seeing her smile and light up brings me so much joy, and it really is every day. I get to be silly with her. I read her books in french that neither of us understand. I cook omelets that neither of us are super thrilled about but chow down on anyway, hoping for better next time. It really is the best.
I know I have a few days who read this, so Happy Father’s day, even if you are in Aus/NZ, and this doesn’t apply. For those on the fence, and have the right partner and position, can I full throatily endorse hitting it raw.
