A guy I used to row with has been spectacularly successful since we lasted pull stick together (to be fair, he was very talented before that). He’s at the point where he is getting invited onto some of the smaller AI podcasts, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a big player at one of the frontier labs in Australia within the decade.

There was one takeaway that I thought was interesting:

Junior work is being reshaped (in a nice way). Entry-level people were always the cheapest, and that’s why they were given the grunt work. AI can do lots of the menial work, which should free juniors (who adapt quickest) to higher-level work sooner.

Everyone has been through the trenches of grunt work, tapping away doing tasks only marginally outside the scope of a well incentivized chimpanzee. It is horrible, and something EVERYONE wants to escape quickly.

If AI allows more people to escape that hell, then that is a good thing. Will it mean we need less people to do the tasks we were doing in the past? Probably. That’s another problem, and potentially a real one. But there are some real benefits flowing through.
