I read an interesting quote today: “Rejection is just redirection”. I like it.
It aligns with something I have thought for a while; for 90% of people, being fired or made redundant is a positive event in the medium to long term.
Obviously there are exceptions. And it goes without saying that being rejected, whether in a professional, social, or romantic domain, always sucks at the time.
But given enough time, it’s usually for the best. If you’re let go from a place, or worse, fired, then it almost certainly wasn’t a good match. For many people, being let go is the impetus they need to go do something else, that hopefully aligns better with what they want.
I don’t like hearing about people being rejected. I don’t wish it on people. But a reframing a rejection as a redirection isn’t the worst advice.
