Open AI, the creator of ChatGPT, released their spring update today. This is big news, and the first time I have ever tuned into a tech product launch. If you haven’t seen it, you can check it out below.
With all news, there are now two parts; the event, and the commentary. Let’s go through them.
The event was super well put together. While it was obviously fashionable back in the day to do the Steve Jobs approach with the black turtleneck and large screen, but this was far more casual and relaxed. The team were upbeat, friendly, and casual, and the technology they unleashed was super impressive.
Everyone is waiting for ChatGPT-5, which may, or may not, drop this year. Todays release felt very much like a stepping stone towards the “next big thing”, but some of the highlights was the ability of the AI to move away from just text and use video and sound. In the video, the user scans a handwritten maths equation with the phone camera, and the AI walks the user through the process, step by step. Literally incredible.
We really do live in the best of times.
