  • A very useful tool

If there is one tool in the kitchen which never ceases to impress me, it’s the thermometer. You don’t NEED one, but I highly recommend it. The digital ones in particular are both affordable and effective. The idea that you can use your fingers to test the doneness of steaks is completely codswallop, and a…

  • Citizen O

Octavia received her Australian Certificate in the mail today, so she’s officially “on the team”. Having dual citizenship is awesome. Kylene and I have both benefited from our British passports when we worked and studied abroad (Ky studied in Germany and worked in England, I did it the other way round), and hopefully Octavia will…

  • The Defenders of the Byline

I don’t think I ever remember a time when there were journalists who garnered respect directly from the byline. By that, I mean people would read an article and say “Oh, that’s by Ms X, it must be good”. Most trustworthiness and prestige was held by the publication, not the individuals. Some organisations, such as…

  • Snowball

My Apple Watch tracks my steps, minutes exercised, hours standing, and calories burnt. I used to ignore all of it. But now I have a bit of a streak going, and man, the snowball effect is REAL. To the point where I’m walking round the block at 10pm trying to knock off all my goals….

  • Wills

Finally, we have finished writing our wills. Perhaps, dear reader, you’re in them, but you’ll have to wait and see. It’s a strange experience, thinking about what happens are you wander off the mortal coil. For me, the hardest bits were figuring out the edge cases, such as if we both die, and their godparents…

  • So much fun

Our dear friend Sydney had a surprise birthday party this evening. Her grandmother, who is now a great-grandmother, had made the trip from Austin to be there. I used to think older people were gross, but these days, you realize they’re living treasures. What they have seen in their lifetime, and the changes that have…

Why I started this blog

I don’t really use Social Media anymore; I’m too young for Facebook, too old for SnapChat, too normie for Discord and too boring for Instagram. While this buys me back time and peace of mind, it means that it can sometimes be difficult to share my life with my friends and family outside of phone calls and in-person meetups. As I live overseas, this can be a difficulty.

With this in mind, and inspired my friend Dan Cullum (check out his fantastic site HERE), I have started a daily blog. Not only will I be able to share my ideas, news, and stories to friends and family, but it serves as a time capsule as I move through life. In the future, I look forward to seeing how my views, opinions, and ideas change over time. At the very least, it is an exercise in discipline, and may be of interest to my descendants at some time in the future.

While I imagine most followers of this blog will be friends and family, all are welcome to subscribe. Feel free to email at harry@harrywetherall.com, I reply to every message, and would love to hear from you.
