  • Mid-week marvel

It can feel decadent to have a roast mid week. That’s because it is. But it’s also surprisingly easy, if you’re happy to have it toned down and a bit rustic. Today we threw a leg of lamb in the oven, dropped some sweet potatoes around it, pulled it out and made a quick salad…

  • Over-correction

The last week or two I have been putting out some rather sparse posts, and then the last two days have been essays. While it would be nicer on paper to have a balance, I think with a busy life, it’s largely inevitable.

  • Carnival V2

So yesterday I described the Surf Carnival, today I am going to share my own experience with Surf Life Saving. Many, many years ago when I was living in Melbourne, I had a buddy from University try to rope me into joing the Anglesea SLSC Surf Boats team. I hadn’t the foggiest of what that…

  • Carnival

Walking down the Ruakākā beach today, the three of us saw a Surf Life Saving Carnival in full swing, plus the little nippers nearby being introduced to the world of surf sports. For readers outside the Southern Hemisphere, with few exceptions, all beaches in Australia and New Zealand are patrolled by volunteers called Life Savers,…

  • Drive to survive

Last night Ky and I arrived back to NZ, and despite a delay, drove up to her sister’s place that night. We got in just before 5am. It was the right thing to do, and I’m so grateful that I had Ky staying up with me to do the driving.

  • Flight fatigue

Our long series of flights this trip is almost over; thank goodness. We are descending into Auckland now, and due to some foul weather in Melbourne, we’ve been slightly delayed. If we get to our car by 1:30 AM, we will have done well. Ky and I are very fortunate to be able to spend…

Why I started this blog

I don’t really use Social Media anymore; I’m too young for Facebook, too old for SnapChat, too normie for Discord and too boring for Instagram. While this buys me back time and peace of mind, it means that it can sometimes be difficult to share my life with my friends and family outside of phone calls and in-person meetups. As I live overseas, this can be a difficulty.

With this in mind, and inspired my friend Dan Cullum (check out his fantastic site HERE), I have started a daily blog. Not only will I be able to share my ideas, news, and stories to friends and family, but it serves as a time capsule as I move through life. In the future, I look forward to seeing how my views, opinions, and ideas change over time. At the very least, it is an exercise in discipline, and may be of interest to my descendants at some time in the future.

While I imagine most followers of this blog will be friends and family, all are welcome to subscribe. Feel free to email at harry@harrywetherall.com, I reply to every message, and would love to hear from you.
