  • Home or Away?

It’s FA Cup weekend, and while I didn’t catch any games, I did enjoy a few highlights in the late afternoon. For those who don’t know, the FA Cup is an English soccer/football knockout tournament open to every club in the country. This week was the Third Round, the round when the Big Dogs enter…

  • Arranged

Note: Yesterday I referred to a meal as raging. What I meant to say was ragù, and for those who wonder, yes, it was delicious. A writer I follow on Substack wrote about how he predicted an increased trend of “arranged marriages” in the US over the coming years. He was careful to define what…

  • Flavour Nap

We’re seeing friends for dinner tomorrow night, and we’re bringing a raging. I pride myself on making a good one, and firmly believe the secret ingredient is time. No, I haven’t misspelled the herb (although it feature), but taking the time both to cook it down (~5 hours) and then for the flavour nap (~24…

  • Douglas Murray

I went to see esteemed writer and journalist, Douglas Murray, speak at the Paramount Theatre last night. It was an engaging affair. He spent a lot of time talking about Israel, and the conflict that he’s been covering since October 7. By integrating footage he took with anecdotes, both light and dark, he was able…

  • Icy Slip

The snow has fallen, and melted, but it’s still icy out here. Icy enough to stack it while walking home tonight from the theatre to see Douglas Murray speak. No harm, no damage, but ice on concrete is hard.

  • A different distraction

My phone recently told me my average view time for the past week. Usually I avoid looking at it, as it can be a sobering experience. Not this time. It hasn’t been under four hours for probably years, but it’s now closer to three. I was pleasantly surprised, but I shouldn’t have been. An infant…

Why I started this blog

I don’t really use Social Media anymore; I’m too young for Facebook, too old for SnapChat, too normie for Discord and too boring for Instagram. While this buys me back time and peace of mind, it means that it can sometimes be difficult to share my life with my friends and family outside of phone calls and in-person meetups. As I live overseas, this can be a difficulty.

With this in mind, and inspired my friend Dan Cullum (check out his fantastic site HERE), I have started a daily blog. Not only will I be able to share my ideas, news, and stories to friends and family, but it serves as a time capsule as I move through life. In the future, I look forward to seeing how my views, opinions, and ideas change over time. At the very least, it is an exercise in discipline, and may be of interest to my descendants at some time in the future.

While I imagine most followers of this blog will be friends and family, all are welcome to subscribe. Feel free to email at harry@harrywetherall.com, I reply to every message, and would love to hear from you.
