  • Foreign Technology

I was reading an essay by Noah Smith, an American blogger and economist, about a long held memory he had of watching a documentary set on a remote island. The locals were explaining to the host what they got up to on the island; fishing, building shelter, hunting with spears, tending the fire. It was…

  • Getting out of here alive

We flew into Florence today, ready to spend a week or so in Italy before our friend’s wedding. Tuscany is a beautiful part of the world. The hardest part of the journey hasn’t been from our accom to the airport (seamless, thanks to the public holiday induced traffic absence), boarding our plane (London City truly…

  • A sequence of events

Today will be a series of vignettes throughout the day, as my friend Joseph and I go to see Crystal Palace take on Nottingham Forest at Selhurst Park. 11:51: boarded the ThamesLink train at Kings Cross (Aka St Pancreas in our household) en route to East Croydon. The weather is beautiful, there are a few…

  • Fair enough

One of my favourite Paul Graham (founder of YC) quotes is “in February, you wonder why ANYONE would live in London. In June, you wonder why anyone would live anywhere else”. While it’s not June, it is a beautiful time to be in the English capital for a long weekend.

  • Rough start

Ky and I are about to begin our summer vacation. It’s something we have been quite looking forward to, but are slightly daunted by the long flight ahead. 9 hours is a long journey, especially with an infant. It turns out that the flight was the least of our worries, as 20 minutes into our…

  • Sad goodbyes

After two wonderful months, Occi’s grandparents, Kim and Graham, have flown back to New Zealand. They have been a godsend. It certainly wasn’t a holiday for them. With Ky back at work, they were on full time Occi duty. This meant trips to the library, swimming lessons, music lessons, and most of all, time spent…

Why I started this blog

I don’t really use Social Media anymore; I’m too young for Facebook, too old for SnapChat, too normie for Discord and too boring for Instagram. While this buys me back time and peace of mind, it means that it can sometimes be difficult to share my life with my friends and family outside of phone calls and in-person meetups. As I live overseas, this can be a difficulty.

With this in mind, and inspired my friend Dan Cullum (check out his fantastic site HERE), I have started a daily blog. Not only will I be able to share my ideas, news, and stories to friends and family, but it serves as a time capsule as I move through life. In the future, I look forward to seeing how my views, opinions, and ideas change over time. At the very least, it is an exercise in discipline, and may be of interest to my descendants at some time in the future.

While I imagine most followers of this blog will be friends and family, all are welcome to subscribe. Feel free to email at harry@harrywetherall.com, I reply to every message, and would love to hear from you.
