  • Do or die

ChatGPT is launching their latest model, 4.5, next month. It’s an important milestone for two reasons. One, despite what the bots on X say, OpenAI and ChatGPT are the flagship of the industry. There are plenty of ride-share companies, but only one Uber. Being in that position means there will always be a LOT of…

  • Keep it fun

I have been spending the afternoon coding on Cursor, an AI-powered code editor. It’s had a few updates, which are really, really awesome. The one that grabbed my attention, and that I just had to share, came from the Composer. Here, you can write commands for what you want coded, and the AI will write…

  • Happy Families

Tolstoy famously wrote that “all happy families are alike, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” Known as the Anna Karenina Principle, this observation has been applied to everything from equities to microbiomes. How? The basic idea is that there are countless ways to fail, but to succeed, you need a common set…

  • Chart of the week

I don’t know if this will be a regular feature, but I saw this chart recently, and just had to share it. This is number of Software Jobs posted on Indeed in the past four years. It’s a bleak picture if this is the game you’re in, and an even worse one if you’re trying…

  • Three years

This is how long the war in Ukraine has raged. I remember the day it happened. I was at my old job at Kiwibank, and our entire team had a live stream of Kiev in the corner of our screen, waiting for the tanks to roll in. Everyone and their dog expected it to happen…

  • The White Lotus

Season three is back, baby! I’m not much of a tv guy. While I don’t shy away from YouTube, it’s rare that I will indulge in a series. That might change with the White Lotus, one of my favourite shows of the past few years. Despite missing the first half, I was quickly thrilled that…

Why I started this blog

I don’t really use Social Media anymore; I’m too young for Facebook, too old for SnapChat, too normie for Discord and too boring for Instagram. While this buys me back time and peace of mind, it means that it can sometimes be difficult to share my life with my friends and family outside of phone calls and in-person meetups. As I live overseas, this can be a difficulty.

With this in mind, and inspired my friend Dan Cullum (check out his fantastic site HERE), I have started a daily blog. Not only will I be able to share my ideas, news, and stories to friends and family, but it serves as a time capsule as I move through life. In the future, I look forward to seeing how my views, opinions, and ideas change over time. At the very least, it is an exercise in discipline, and may be of interest to my descendants at some time in the future.

While I imagine most followers of this blog will be friends and family, all are welcome to subscribe. Feel free to email at harry@harrywetherall.com, I reply to every message, and would love to hear from you.
